Neighborhood Association Meetings

The Pendleton Heights Neighborhood Association will host its next monthly meeting from 7 – 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 12, at Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences, East Independence Avenue. The Independence Plaza Neighborhood Council will also host its monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 12, at Woodland Elementary, 711 Woodland Ave.

KCU administrative building ribbon cutting

Join the Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences as they commence their 100-year celebration with the unveiling of their new administration building. The renovated administration building is part of a five-year campus master plan to create the best possible academic resources for students and enable us to continue improving the well-being of the communities we serve during our next 100 years. My Kansas City: the Heritage & Legacy of the Historic Northeast

This exhibition explores the important history of Kansas City’s Historic Northeast neighborhoods and its long-awaited renaissance. As one of Kansas City’s oldest areas, the Historic Northeast’s past includes legendary, lively stories and shared memories of magnates, immigrants, mansions, ethnic businesses, and more. From culturally diverse neighborhoods, active residents, and visionary leaders to iconic monuments and beautiful natural resources, the Historic Northeast has deep historical significance for Kansas City—and the resilience and creativity of its neighborhoods is a beacon for the future. The exhibition is located in the Museum’s Carriage House and is on display through Jan. 16, 2016. Exhibition Tours are free and self-guided from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Wednesday-Saturday.

Walk with ease

At 2 p.m. at the North-East Library, this course will teach participants how to walk and stretch safely, increase flexibility, and improve balance. Weekly incentives will be given to participants. Join to learn how walking can improve your fitness and help manage your arthritis pain.

Adult Thursday Games

Join other adults at the North-East Public Library, 6000 Wilson Rd., Kansas City, Mo., to play a variety of games at 10 a.m.

ESL Class

Join the North-East Public Library at 10 a.m. to learn basic English skills: reading, writing, and conversation. No fee or books required.

KCPS Superintendent forum

Individual candidate forums will be held from 5:30 — 6:30 p.m. and 6:45 — 7:45 p.m. at the Paseo Academy of Fine and Performing Arts, 4747 Flora Ave. Members of the public are encouraged to attend. Attendees of the individual candidate forums will have the opportunity to ask questions and learn about the educational backgrounds and experiences of the two finalists. Attendees will also be able to provide feedback at the conclusion of each forum. The board will review public feedback and make a final selection following the forums. The board’s goal is to have the new superintendent in place by July 2016.

Join North-East Public Library for its weekly story time and craft at 9:30 a.m. Parents and kids will enjoy stories geared toward toddlers and pre-schoolers. Get ready for songs, tongue twisters and dramatic play.

Join the North-East Public Library at 10 a.m. to learn how to speak conversational Spanish.
