KANSAS CITY, Missouri — The Kansas City Public Schools Board of Directors is hosting individual forums with the two Superintendent finalists.

The individual candidate forums will be held from 5:30 — 6:30 p.m. and 6:45 — 7:45 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 14, at the Paseo Academy of Fine and Performing Arts, 4747 Flora Ave. Members of the public are encouraged to attend. Attendees of the individual candidate forums will have the opportunity to ask questions and learn about the educational backgrounds and experiences of the two finalists. Attendees will also be able to provide feedback at the conclusion of each forum.

In a press release announcing the forums, Board Chair Jon Hile said the KCPS School Board is committed to securing parent and community input as they make decisions about the selection of the district’s next superintendent.

“These upcoming candidate forums are an important opportunity for students, parents, educators and partners to help shape a great future for KCPS,” Hile said.

The superintendent search began in July 2015 with the departure of previous Superintendent Dr. R. Stephen Green. The board contracted with the education leadership search firm Ray & Associates to conduct a regional and national search. More than 70 applicants responded. The names of the finalists will be shared approximately 48 hours before the forums. The board will review public feedback and make a final selection following the forums. The board’s goal is to have the new superintendent in place by July 1, 2016.
