Kansas City, Missouri — Over the Thanksgiving holiday, John Rizzo, D-Kansas City, announced his candidacy for the Missouri’s 11th Senatorial District.

Since 2010, Rizzo has represented Missouri’s 19th House of Representative’s District. In a press release announcing his candidacy, Rizzo said since 2010, he’s had the pleasure of serving residents in Northeast Kansas City, Independence, and Sugar Creek as a State Representative. During that time, he’s fought to bring quality jobs to the region, increase funding for educational institutions, and protect workers against attacks by well-financed out-of-state special interests.

“I am thankful for the continued support from the residents of Missouri’s 19th House District, and am energized to continue supporting our middle class values in the 2016 session,” Rizzo said.

He continued by noting the challenges facing Missouri and Jackson County require committed leadership, and after much consideration, he’s decided the best way for him to continue to represent his constituents’ interests in Jefferson City is to run for the 11th District Senate Seat.

“I look forward to talking with the people of the Jackson County about how we can make our community a better place to live, work, and raise a family,” Rizzo said.

The seat has been vacant since last July after the resignation of Paul LeVota after allegations arose he sexually harassed a female intern working in his office. No charges were ever filed.
