KCPS to share master plan with students and families

KANSAS CITY, Missouri — The Kansas City Public Schools is ready to share its Master Plan recommendations with the public and school board.

Designed to build stronger schools and stronger communities for its students, KCPS administrators will present final recommendations at the Board of Directors meeting, 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, at the Board of Education, 1211 McGee St. The next day, district officials will begin a series of meetings with stakeholders, informing them plans to expand educational opportunities for our students. Plan recommendations may include school consolidations and attendance boundary changes.

Depending on which school their children attend, the district is asking parents and guardians to plan to attend one of the following meetings. These meetings will be an open house format and presentations/discussions will begin every half hour. Childcare will be provided free-of-charge. The meetings are scheduled for:

• Wednesday, Nov. 11, 5 — 7 p.m. at Northeast Middle, 4904 Independence Ave. (North Area Schools: Anderson, Attucks, Garcia, Garfield, Gladstone, James, Wendell Phillips & Whittier elementary schools; Northeast Middle School; Lincoln Prep Academy & Northeast High School)

• Saturday, Nov. 14, 9 — 11 a.m. at Paseo Academy, 4747 Flora Ave. (South Area Schools: AC Prep Lower, Banneker, Border Star, Hale Cook, Hartman, Holliday, Knotts, Paige & Troost elementary schools; AC Prep Upper, Paseo Academy & SWECC)

• Saturday, Nov. 14, 1 — 3 p.m. at Central Academy, 3221 Indiana Ave. (Central Area Schools: Carver, Faxon, FLA, King @ KCMSA, Longfellow & Melcher elementary schools; Central Middle School; Central Academy)

• Monday, Nov. 16, 5 — 7 p.m. at Rogers Elementary, 6400 E 23rd St. (East Area Schools: Pitcher, Rogers, Trailwoods & Wheatley elementary schools; East High School)

According to a press release from the school district, the goal of the Master Plan is to ensure that they are using their limited resources as effectively and efficiently as possible in order to give students the best opportunity to succeed in reaching their college and career dreams.
