Walk with ease club

At 9 a.m. at the North-East Library, this six-week course will teach participants how to walk and stretch safely, increase flexibility, and improve balance. Weekly incentives will be given to participants. Learn how walking can improve your fitness and help manage your arthritis pain.

Budgeting: The Money Diet

Join the North-East Library at 1 p.m. for a 60 minute workshop on budgeting. In the class, you will learn: How to identify the components of a budget, methods to gain a snapshot of your finances, steps to implement everyday savings, and new ways to set and achieve financial goals.

My Kansas City: the Heritage & Legacy of the Historic Northeast

This exhibition explores the important history of Kansas City’s Historic Northeast neighborhoods and its long-awaited renaissance. As one of Kansas City’s oldest areas, the Historic Northeast’s past includes legendary, lively stories and shared memories of magnates, immigrants, mansions, ethnic businesses, and more. From culturally diverse neighborhoods, active residents, and visionary leaders to iconic monuments and beautiful natural resources, the Historic Northeast has deep historical significance for Kansas City—and the resilience and creativity of its neighborhoods is a beacon for the future. The exhibition is located in the Museum’s Carriage House and is on display through Jan. 16, 2016. Exhibition Tours are free and self-guided from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Wednesday-Saturday.

Chair Fitness Community conversation

Join North-East Public Library as the Independence Avenue Community Improvement District hosts a community conversation at 6 p.m. John Pager from KCBIZ will be on hand from the city to discuss the permitting and legality of temporary businesses such as tents along the Independence Avenue corridor. Megan Painter from InSite Planning LLC. will be on hand to discuss the zoning overlay district and urban design and development services. The meeting is open to the public. Chair Fitness

Join North-East Public Library at 9:30 a.m. for physical fitness. No matter what your limitations, maybe you can still reap the physical, mental and emotional benefits of exercise. This class is designed to give you a total body workout. Cardio, strength and flexibility exercises are all performed from a seated position.

Story Time and Craft

Join North-East Public Library for its weekly story time and craft at 10:30 a.m. Parents and kids will enjoy stories geared toward toddlers and pre-schoolers. Get ready for songs, tongue twisters and dramatic play.

Join North-East Public Library for class on the fundamentals of Microsoft Word which will focus on templates as well as the various menu options. Class begins at 10:30 a.m. at the library, 6000 Wilson Rd.

Mexican American Fast Pitch Softball Leagues: Connecting Communities Across State Lines

Curated by Dr. Gene T. Chavez and presented by the Kansas City Museum in partnership with El Centro, Inc., Mexican American Fast Pitch Softball Leagues: Connecting Communities Across State Lines is an exhibition exploring the rich history and legacy of Mexican American fast pitch softball leagues in Missouri and Kansas. This exhibition features a documentary film based on oral histories of former players and items from personal collections including photographs, uniforms, league documents, trophies, and other historical materials. On view from 1 – 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24.

Día de los Muertos/Day of the Dead

Join the Kansas City Museum from1 to 4 p.m. and discover the history and cultural traditions of Día de los Muertos. Enjoy live music, puppetry by Stone Lion Puppets, and a mini Día de los Muertos fashion show by Haute Production. Decorate sugar skulls, make tissue flowers, contribute to a community altar installation, and sample traditional Día de los Muertos bread from Panaderia de las Americas. La Hamburgesa Loca’s food truck will be on property selling street tacos. This program is presented in partnership with Mattie Rhodes Center. Free to participate; RSVP is not necessary.
