Kid craft night

Children between the ages of 5-12 are invited to join North-East Public Library, 6000 Wilson Rd., for a night of crafting beginning at 5:50 p.m.

Mexican American Fast Pitch Softball Leagues: Connecting Communities Across State Lines

Curated by Dr. Gene T. Chavez and presented by the Kansas City Museum in partnership with El Centro, Inc., Mexican American Fast Pitch Softball Leagues: Connecting Communities Across State Lines is an exhibition exploring the rich history and legacy of Mexican American fast pitch softball leagues in Missouri and Kansas. This exhibition features a documentary film based on oral histories of former players and items from personal collections including photographs, uniforms, league documents, trophies, and other historical materials. On view from July 11 – September 5, 2015. Exhibition tours are free self-guided from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday-Saturday.

Northeast Farmer’s Market

Northeast Farmers’ Market is open Thursdays, 4 – 7 p.m., until Oct. 1, at the corner of Independence and Gladstone Avenues. They accept cash, debit cards, and EBT. Independence Avenue Community Improvement District Community Conversation

The Independence Avenue CID hosts its community conversation from 6 – 7 p.m. at the North-East Library, 6000 Wilson Ave.. Community Conversation includes IACID and other community wide challenges and concerns, including safety, security, and revenue. Business owners, residents, and community members are encouraged to participate in this on going discussion.

ESL Class

Join the North-East Public Library, 6000 Wilson Rd., at 10 a.m. to learn basic English skills: reading, writing, and conversation. No fee or books required.

Chair Fitness

Join North-East Public Library at 9:30 a.m. for physical fitness. No matter what your limitations, maybe you can still reap the physical, mental and emotional benefits of exercise. This class is designed to give you a total body workout. Cardio, strength and flexibility exercises are all performed from a seated position.

Story Time

Join North-East Public Library for its weekly story time and craft at 10:30 a.m. Parents and kids will enjoy stories geared toward toddlers and pre-schoolers. Get ready for songs, tongue twisters and dramatic play.

City Market Cinema

City Market Cinema returns with movies under the stars on the final Friday of August. Located at 3rd and Main Streets, wear your loudest golf getup and compete for a hole-in-one winning prize during a Caddyshack screening. Admission is free! The movie begins after sunset, at approximately 9 p.m. Come early and have a chance to win fun raffle prizes, enjoy dinner from one of the food trucks, a City Market restaurant or bring lawn chairs, a blanket and your favorite munchies for a picnic at the show.

NEKC International Taste and Tour

Join the Northeast Chamber of Commerce from 5 – 9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, for its fourth annual Taste and Tour event at the Don Bosco Senior Center, 580 Campbell Ave. Taste International food from local restaurants and enjoy a trolley tour of three Historic Northeast Neighborhoods.

Knights of Columbus breakfast

Join the Knights of Columbus #4613 for breakfast beginning at 8:30 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 13, in the St. Joseph’s Hall of St. Anthony’s Church, 3208 Lexinton Ave. The Knights are rolling back prices, $5.50 for adults and $3 for children 12-years-old and under. Menu includes: pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage, biscuits and gravy, and choriza, as well as coffee and juice.

Dinner and bingo

Join the Knights of Columbus #4613 for a night of food and fun on Friday, Sept. 11, in the St. Joseph’s Hall at St. Anthony’s Church, 3208 Lexington Ave. Dinner kicks off at 5 p.m. with bingo lasting from 7 – 9 p.m. Menu includes three tacos and rice for only $5. Also available are soda, water, coffee and desserts.

Acoustic Jams on the Portico

From 1 – 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 5, join the Kansas City Museum for a jam session. Free to participate and listen. Break out your musical instrument, clear your throat, tune up, and join us on the front porch and lawn of Corinthian Hall for an acoustic jam. All styles of music are welcome. The jams mostly feature three cord songs and participants take turns leading songs. Beginners are welcome. For inquires, contact jam coordinator Peter Gross at (816) 674-0393. These jams will continue on the first Saturday of each month through October.

Architectural Tours

Beginning Saturday, Sept. 12, from 3 – 4 p.m., tour the first floors of the Carriage House and Corinthian Hall with Executive Director Anna Marie Tutera, City Architect Eric Bosch, and Architects Elizabeth and Majid Amirahmadi from International Architects Atelier to learn about the Museum’s planning process for its historic restoration and rehabilitation project. Tours are $10 per person (no rsvp necessary).
