KANSAS CITY, Missouri — A Northeast resident stopped a burglary from taking place at their home.

According to Sgt. Kari Thompson, of the Kansas City Police Department’s media unit, at around 9 a.m. Friday, Aug. 20, officers were dispatched to the 4600 block of E. Seventh Street for reports of a disturbance and shots fired.

Upon arrival, officers determined that the victim interrupted the suspect in the process of burglarizing the victim’s residence. The victim was armed and a struggle ensued with the suspect over the weapon. Shots were fired inside the residence, no one was hit. The suspect was taken into custody at the scene.
