Mexican American Fast Pitch Softball Leagues: Connecting Communities Across State Lines

Curated by Dr. Gene T. Chavez and presented by the Kansas City Museum in partnership with El Centro, Inc., Mexican American Fast Pitch Softball Leagues: Connecting Communities Across State Lines is an exhibition exploring the rich history and legacy of Mexican American fast pitch softball leagues in Missouri and Kansas. Opening on the weekend that the 2015 National Conference of La Raza’s (NCLR) annual conference comes to Kansas City, this exhibition features a documentary film based on oral histories of former players and items from personal collections including photographs, uniforms, league documents, trophies, and other historical materials. On view through September 5, 2015. Exhibition tours are free and will be available on the hour from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday-Saturday.

Join the North-East Public Library at 5 p.m. for a Chronic Disease Management Workshop. Open to all adults and free of charge. This workshop would benefit you if you have been diagnosed with a chronic disease, are living with someone with a chronic disease, or taking care of someone with a chronic disease.

Cliff Drive and Spirit of KC Scenic Byway Connector Trail Open House

The Kansas City, Missouri Parks and Recreation Department invites you to attend a public Open House event from 4:30 – 7:30 p.m. Thursday, July 23, at the Garrison Community Center, 1124 E. Fifth St., to view the trail design that will connect the Cliff Drive Scenic Byway to the Spirit of KC Scenic Byway. The meeting will be hosted by the KCMO Parks and Recreation Department and their design consultant TranSystems Corporation.

This class is designed to give you a total body workout. Cardio, strength and flexibility exercises are all performed from a seated position.

Kansas City Zoo “Operation Perfect Pet”

Join the North-East Library at 10:30 a.m. for a top secret mission to find the perfect pet; not all animals make good pets. With a large variety of exciting and interactive programs, the Zoomobile brings the world of the wild to you. Connect with nature and wildlife through a fascinating journey featuring awesome artifacts, fun science, captivating stories, and of course, live animals.

Join North-East Public Library for class on the fundamentals of Microsoft Word which will focus on templates as well as the various menu options. Class begins at 10:30 a.m. at the library, 6000 Wilson Rd.

Superhero Training Camp

Join the North-East Library at 5 p.m. Tuesday, July 28, to see if you have what it takes to become a superhero. Send your young hero to our training camp, where they can practice feats of strength, agility, and bravery, make crafts to keep and get an official Library Superhero certificate. Costumes encouraged, or make your own superhero disguise at the library! Appropriate for children all ages.

Celebrate another achievement in the downtown streetcar development. Join in for the fun at the River Market Rail Rally on July 29, 5 – 7 p.m., on 5th street, between Main and Walnut! Sign Removal and breakfast

Join the Kansas City Museum Sign for breakfast and to watch them remove the iconic “Kansas City Museum of Science and History” on Saturday, Aug. 15.
