KANSAS CITY, Missouri — In observance of the Independence Day holiday, city offices and the 311 Call Center will be closed Friday, July 3.

The week after the holiday, July 6-10, is a Trash Amnesty Week. During this time, residents may set out up to 15 bags of trash without tags. No hazardous waste, bulky items or leaf and brush will be collected. During trash amnesty dates, trash and recycling collection takes place on the day following the holiday, and collection for the remaining days of the week also takes place one day later than usual. Friday trash is collected on Saturday during such weeks.

Also closed on Friday, July 3, in observance of the holiday include all Jackson County offices, including the courthouses in Kansas City and Independence. County officials are asking the public to join them, and about 20,000 of their friends and neighbors, for the Jackson County Big Bang 4th of July Celebration on Saturday, July 4. The event kicks off at 5:30 p.m. and lasts until 11 p.m. at Longview Lake Shelter #13. Admission is free for everyone. The event will feature: carnival foods and attractions, SkyDivers, a Military Tribute, a performance by Nashville’s Blackjack Billy and Walker McGuire and the largest firework shell to be shot in the U.S. Jackson County’s radio partner, 94.9 KCMO, will simulcast this event.
