KANSAS CITY, Missouri — The River Market area is going to see several road closures over the next few weeks.

Work on one of the last pieces the Kansas City Streetcar’s track started this week on Monday, June 15. This is the special turn piece that will connect Grand Boulevard to Third Street. During work, Third Street will be closed from Walnut Street to Grand Boulevard. Southbound traffic only will be permitted on Grand Boulevard from Third Street to Missouri Avenue. track work will take place over the next three weeks, including weekends, until July 3, 2015. Street parking will not be available on Third Street between Walnut Street and Grand Boulevard, as well as on Grand Boulevard between Third and Fourth Streets.

Platform work will continue at the intersection of Fifth and Walnut Streets until June 26, 2015. Fifth Street will remain open to two-way traffic, however, there will be no street parking on Fifth Street between Main and Walnut Streets.

Currently, traffic is extremely congested in the Central Business District between Eighth and 12th Streets as crews work on northbound track on the east side of Main Street.
