KANSAS CITY, Missouri — A Northeast pharmacy was the scene of an attempted robbery Tuesday afternoon.

According to Sgt. Kari Thompson, of the Kansas City Police Department Media Unit, around noon on Tuesday, June 9, a woman entered Spalitto’s Pharmacy, 3801 Independence Ave., and threatened employees, suggesting she had a weapon inside her coat. As she walked up to the pharmacy counter, she demanded they give her Oxycontin. At that time, she again yelled she had a gun and wanted the Oxycontin. An employee told the woman he has a gun as well and that she needs to leave the store.

When he started to walk towards her, she ran out the door and he gave chase to her. Once outside of the store she ran south on Cleveland then east on Sixth Street, where he lost sight of her. The woman attempted to steal a maroon SUV, but was unsuccessful. The suspect has not yet been found.

Thompson said the KCPD does not believe this incident is connected to the early morning robbery that happened at a Liberty, Mo., pharmacy. According to various media reports, around 4 a.m. Tuesday, June 9, a Walgreens in Liberty was robbed, with the assailants stealing an unknown amount of OxyContin.
