KANSAS CITY, Missouri — A Jackson County grand jury has indicted a Kansas City woman for the death of her child.

According to a press release from Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker, Maria M. Chishahayo, 36, the mother of a two-year-old child whose death has been ruled a homicide, 36, has been charged with second-degree murder, a class A felony; and four counts of abuse or neglect of a child, each a class B felony. Chishahayo was initially charged this past March with four counts of abuse after her two-year-old child was found dead when police were called to the house on the 1300 block of Vine Street for a child abuse call.

According to court documents, Chishahayo was responsible for the care of several children and knowingly hit the children. This resulted in the children suffering physical injuries.
