Ronald William Heldstab

KANSAS CITY, Missouri — Ronald William Heldstab, 72, Historic Northeast Kansas City, Mo., passed away peacefully April 29, 2015.

A memorial service celebrating Ron’s commitment to community will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 8, at Lykins Square Park, 10 Street and Myrtle Avenue, Historic Northeast. Interment will be held at 12:30 p.m. May 8, Leavenworth National Cemetery 395 Biddle Blvd., Fort Leavenworth, Kan., 66027.

Ron was born Jan. 10, 1943, to William and Anna Frazier Heldstab. He grew up at St. Francis School and Orphanage in Nevada, Mo., and Drumm Farm Home for Children in Independence, Mo. Ron was a veteran of the United States Army and was a master carpenter and construction worker, working on projects throughout Kansas City.

Ron was the President of Lykins Neighborhood Association in Historic Northeast Kansas City for many years and was instrumental in the redevelopment of Lykins Square Park, making it a destination for neighborhood families. Through Ron’s leadership, the Lykins neighborhood was the first area neighborhood association to join the Northeast CAN unit under the auspices of Old Northeast Incorporated. Through this alliance and Ron’s leadership, the Lykins neighborhood benefitted greatly with lower crime and cleaner streets. For his tireless neighborhood advocacy, Ron was one of the first recipients of the Northeast News Community Betterment Award, given to those who selflessly give of themselves to their community.

Ronald was preceded in death by his parents William and Anna Frazier Heldstab and beloved sister, Donnie Heldstab Courier. He is survived by his nieces, Theresa Collins Carr, Anastasia (Stacy) Collins Geer and Kathleen Courier Mallory. Grand nieces and nephews, Adam, Sandy, Jimmy, Nikki, William, Amanda, Hilary, Sarah and Tommy, and great-grand nephews Josh, Alex, Gavin, Kloi, Jolyne, Kadynce, JD, Kasyn, Thurlan and great-grand niece Selena.
