KANSAS CITY, Missouri — The Kansas City Police Department is investigating a homicide that took place in the Northeast.

According to a press release from Sgt. Kari Thompson, of the KCPD media unit, around 10 p.m. on Sunday, May 3, officers responded to the area of Ninth Street and Indiana Avenue for a disturbance call. Upon arrival, witnesses told the officers that they heard several gunshots. Soon after, officers discovered an unresponsive black female victim at the scene. The victim was confirmed dead by Kansas City Fire Department personnel.

The victim in this homicide has been identified as Jossette Beeks, 45, of Kansas City.

Witnesses reported seeing a black male fleeing the scene on foot. Anyone with any information on this homicide should call the TIPS hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477).
