Northeast News

Well it’s been a while since this old pooch has thought of candidate endorsements. The Northeast News, as a rule, haven’t offered endorsements, but this time we’re going to let fly with our picks for next Tuesday’s municipal election.

For Mayor, this is really a lesser of two evils and we’ll go with the devil we know versus some crazy dude from Virginia. For the First District At-large race, this is a no brainer. Scott Wagner has the boots-on-the-ground, neighborhood experience necessary to be an effective leader. We’re guessin’ he’s got the 29th floor in his sights in a few years. For Second District At-large, we like Jay Hodges over Teresa Loar. Third District At-large, we like Quinton Lucas.

Fourth District At-large is a pick-em, just not for Jim Glover. This lil’ pooch used to like ol’ Jim, even though he leered at all the women at the Scarritt Christmas parties. These days, he’s really turned his back on Northeast, more specifically the Kansas City Museum. This time around, we like either Bryan Stalder or Katheryn Shields to advance to the general election in June. For the Fifth District At-large race, this pooch likes former Codes Inspector Dennis Anthony. The codes gig makes him more than qualified. Sixth District At-large race is uncontested for incumbent Scott Taylor.

In district races for Northeast’s Third and Fourth Districts, we like anyone who doesn’t put their campaign signs in the public right of way. This DQ’s Rachel Riley. The incumbent is Jermaine Reed, champion of the new East Patrol Campus, something this newsdog isn’t a fan of. The project has been a train-wreck from the word go and is now fraught with cost over-runs and construction delays. The rest of the field, sadly, isn’t bringin’ much to the table. This one is a pick-em for who’ll do the least damage. For the Fourth District race, this pooch is goin’ with John Feirro. John has over 20 years of experience at the neighborhood level. He’s a Northeasat native who still lives in the urban core. That’s called commitment. His opponent, Jolie Justus, has racked up a ton of big money endorsements and support, all evidence of someone well connected. Sadly, however, she has failed to connect on a neighborhood level in Northeast. She won’t return our phone calls or emails, either. If she won’t communicate with the local news outlet, she’s not going to communicate with constituents. Period. There ya have it folks, Bunny the Newshound’s picks for next Tuesday’s primary. Now, get out there and vote!
