Last week, Second year medical students at the Kansas City University of Medicine and Bioscienes took part in mock disaster, which was part of the Advanced Disaster Life Support Training. The scenarios included an explosion at a medical conference with two improvised explosive devices (IED) planted and an active shooter. The simulation taught the students not only how to operate within certain situations, but hot to manage their personal protection, as well. Ian Bowers participated as both a victim and a rescuer. He said although it was hard to be serious at times, he learned a lot and is now better prepared just in case he is ever involved in a chaotic situation.
