Dear Editor:

Since being assigned to the East Patrol Division in January 2014, I can attest to the commitment and dedication that officers, detectives and staff have for helping the community within East Patrol. When I read the letter from Mr. Koenig as published in theNortheast Newslast week (Jan. 21, 2015), I was disheartened to hear that a Northeast resident was not happy with the contact he has had with officers and the negative perception he has of KCPD generally.

In an attempt to make any future contacts with Mr. Koenig more positive, Mr. Koenig concerns are always welcome at KCPD and I would encourage him to contact me or Officer Jason Cooley at the East Patrol Station at 816-234-5530 with his concerns.

Now, I would like to address one concern from Mr. Koenig’s letter, the fact his perception is that officers from the KCPD are or act cowardly. I have worked with the men and women of the KCPD for over 27 years, they are not cowards, they are dedicated and professional. I could write pages about the heroic efforts of officers but know with confidence that officers will respond to your calls of assistance regardless of the danger to themselves. As officers, we are not a perfect group, but we are willing to work with all, even those who may not agree with our actions or responses.
