Join the North-East Library at 10 a.m. to learn basic English skills: reading, writing, and conversation. No fee or books required.

Story Time and Craft

Join North-East Public Library for its weekly story time and craft at 10:30 a.m. Parents and kids will enjoy stories geared toward toddlers and pre-schoolers. Get ready for songs, tongue twisters and dramatic play.

Saturday, January 24

Computer Class

Join North-East Public Library for class on the fundamentals of Microsoft Word which will focus on templates as well as the various menu options. Class begins at 10:30 a.m. at the library, 6000 Wilson Rd.

Master plan discussion

Join the Kansas City Public School officials as they present their findings and unveils scenarios for community consideration following feedback received from more than 1200 parents, students, staff and community members for the development of the KCPS master plan. The discussion will be held from 1 – 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, at Northeast Middle School, 4909 Independence Ave.

Join North-East Public Library, 6000 Wilson Rd., for its Sunday Family Movie at 2 p.m. at the library. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Community Development Workshop

Don’t miss the Third Annual Community Development Workshop from 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 31, 2015 at the Kauffman Foundation Conference Center! The event is free to attend, however advance registration is required. The Community Development Workshop is a unique community event that brings together stakeholders from the urban core of Kansas City – neighborhood associations, residents, nonprofits, public agencies, and others – to learn, connect, and be empowered. Organized by the Community Capital Fund (CCF) with partners Greater Kansas City LISC and Communities Creating Opportunity (CCO), has brought together over 400 people the last two years and another 300 participants are expected for the 2015 Workshop. Scarritt Renaissance Neighborhood Association Monthly Meeting

The Scarritt Renaissance Neighborhood Association will host its monthly meeting from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 2, at the Kansas City Museum, 3218 Gladstone Blvd.

The Vagina Monologues at the UMKC Student Union Theater

The UMKC Student Union Theatre, 5100 Cherry St., will host a production of the Vagina Monologues at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 10. Advanced tickets are $20 per person and $10 with student ID. The prices increase by $5 if you purchase your ticket at the door. A portion of the proceeds will go to the UMKC’s Women’s Center’s, Violence Prevention and Response Project that benefits both the campus and the community, with thebalance going to the national V-Day fund (www.Vday.org), a global movement to end violence against women and girls.
