KANSAS CITY, Missouri — The filing deadline for candidates who want to run city council or mayor in Kansas City, Mo., came and went last Tuesday.

And with the upcoming election, there’s the possibility for major turnover at City Hall. Seven of the 12 current incumbents are set to leave office, either because of term limits or resignation. Incumbents Ed Ford, Russ Johnson, Melba Curls, Jan Marcason, Cindy Circo and John Sharp are all term-limited and on their way out, and Michael Brooks recently resigned before his first term could end.

Candidates Northeast residents will get to know over the coming months include:

Third District At-large

Forestine Beasley, Karmello Coleman, Virginia Evans, Carol Gatlin, Stephan Gordon, and Quinton Lucas

Third District In-district

Shaheer Akhtab, Bryan Dial, Jamekia Kendrix, Jermaine Reed, and Rachel Riley

Fourth District, At-large

Jared Campbell, Jim Glover, Katheryn Shields, and Bryan Stalder

Fourth District, In-district

Jolie Justus, John Fierro

Only one Kansas City Council incumbent, Scott Taylor, is running unopposed. Also, Jeffery Roberts will face off against incumbent Scott Wagner for the First District, At-large seat. For the mayor’s seat, Mayor Sly James will face off against Clay Chastain and Vincent Lee. The city’s primary is April 7, with the runoff election scheduled for June 23, 2015. All city council members are elected at the same time to four-year terms and may serve two consecutive terms.
