KANSAS CITY, Missouri — Kansas City, Mo., offices will be closed in observance of the Christmas holiday on Dec. 25, and in observance of the New Year’s holiday on Jan. 1. The 311 Call Center, a division of the City Manager’s Office, will also be closed on these dates.

During the city-observed holidays, trash and recycling collection will be delayed one day. The trash and recycling schedule will be as follows:

Christmas

  • Residents who usually have Thursday trash collection will receive the service on Friday, Dec. 26.
  • Residents who usually have Friday trash collection will receive the service on Saturday, Dec. 27.
  • Residents who usually have Monday trash collection will not be impacted.

New Year’s Day

  • Residents who usually have Thursday trash collection will receive the service on Friday, Jan. 2.
  • Residents who usually have Friday trash collection will receive the service on Saturday, Jan.3.
  • Residents who usually have Monday trash collection will not be impacted

Trash Amnesty Week: Dec. 26 — Dec. 31, 2014

To accommodate the extra trash accumulated during the holiday season, the city is granting residents trash amnesty from Friday, Dec. 26 to Wednesday, Dec. 31. During this time, residents may dispose of up to 15 bags of trash (or up to 500 pounds) on the curb without tagging the trash bags.

The city’s unlimited curbside recycling program can help reduce the amount of trash bags. Residents are encouraged to recycle plastics, cardboard and seasonal gift boxes. Residents may also bring recyclable items, including glass, to Recycling Centers located at Metro North Mall, 9051 Hillcrest Road, and 4707 Deramus Avenue. The centers are open from Wednesday through Saturday, 9 a.m. — 5 p.m. Paper gift wrap is not recyclable. Christmas trees may be disposed free of charge every Saturday at the city’s Leaf and Brush drop-off sites. Residents will be charged $5 per tree for the disposal of Christmas trees Monday through Friday.

Leaf and Brush drop-off sites are located at:

  • North Main Street: Open Monday through Saturday; 8 a.m. — 5 p.m.
  • 1815 N. Chouteau Traffic Way: Open Monday through Saturday; 8 a.m. — 5 p.m.
  • 10301 Raytown Road: Open Saturday only; 8 a.m. — 5 p.m.

Leaf and Brush drop-off sites will be closed in observance of holidays on Dec. 24 and 25, and on Dec. 31, and Jan. 1. All drop-off sites will be closed for the season from Saturday, Jan. 17, through March 21, 2015. The Household Hazardous Waste Facility will be closed Dec. 23, 2014 through Jan. 1, 2015. The facility will reopen on Jan. 2, 2015.
