KANSAS CITY, Missouri — A Kansas City police officer shot a woman after she dragged him with her car outside of the Northeast’s Price Chopper last Friday.

According to a press release, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker has charged Raeshonda C. Henderson, 29, of Kansas City, Mo., with armed criminal action, felony resisting arrest and first-degree assault of a law enforcement officer, a class A felony.

According to court documents, Henderson was stopped for a traffic violation around 8 p.m. just outside of Price Chopper, near Independence and Topping Avenues. A man with Henderson jumped out of the car and fled on foot. When the officer tried to detain Henderson, she jumped back in the car and attempted to drive away while the officer was caught on the driver’s side.

The officer was unable to let go and she accelerated at a high rate of speed, dragging the officer around the parking lot. The officer asked her to stop and she said, “no.” The officer fired three shots, struck the woman at least once and then knocked the vehicle into park. The defendant fled but was eventually taken into custody. The officer and Henderson were briefly hospitalized after the incident.

Henderson told police she tried to flee because she had just been released from prison in September for forgery and is currently out on bond. She added she also had marijuana in her purse and forged checks in the car. Prosecutors requested a bond of $150,000.
