Dear Editor,

Please let our neighbors know that the giant green swing on the new playground is over-sized not for fun, but to be handicap accessible. I’m afraid I upset a small toddler’s mom recently when I asked her to move the child she had just placed in the swing, so the wheelchair bound little girl (who she had just “cut-off” on the way to the swing) could enjoy it. This large swing is actually unsafe for smaller children (especially toddlers of size I asked the mom to move), because of the large spacing of the safety harness would allow them to fall through.

Parents and big kids, as long as your child is old enough that the harness spacing won’t be a safety issue, I don’t see any reason why you can’t enjoy it too, but if you should see a child who might have trouble on the regular swings waiting, you need to move immediately. Better yet, don’t even wait to be asked, but let them know it’s there (the Mom and little girl I met were just watching the other children play, totally unaware the swing was there). You’ll be rewarded with some giant smiles, I know I was!
