KANSAS CITY, Missouri — It’s not often a Mobil Four Star Chef, restauranteur and radio host comes in to a private home to prepare a seven course dinner complete with wine flights. But that’s exactly what happened this past Sunday evening in the home of Scarritt residents Sarah and Doug Reed.

Jasper Mirabile, owner and namesake of nationally renowned Jasper’s Restaurant in South Kansas City and host of the “Jasper’s Kitchen” radio show (Saturday morning, 11 a.m. on 810, KCMO Radio) took over the culinary duties in the Reed home as part of a charity fundraiser for a variety of locally based food charities.

“I was born in an apartment on Brownell Avenue in Pendleton Heights and my brothers were born right here in this house” Mirabile said, adding it’s good to see the renaissance that’s happening to the old neighborhood.

“Jasper is a long-time family friend and it’s so wonderful to have him prepare this succulent dinner in our home” dinner host Sarah Reed said.

Mirabile prepared the dinner that included Lobster Cappuccino and Crespelle and Chicken Saltimbocca as part of a charity auction hosted by Slow Foods Kansas City, a local group that encourages equity and sustainability in food production and preparation. The evening benefitted a variety of area food related charities including KC Food Circle, KC Community Gardens Tour and School Gardens.
