KANSAS CITY, Missouri — The Kansas City, Mo., Health Department is working closely with the area public health and medical care community in monitoring the ongoing Ebola outbreak in Africa and the case in Texas. At this time, based on clinical guidelines and the case definition provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Health Department has ruled out the presence of Ebola in Kansas City.

It is important to remember that you cannot catch Ebola unless you come in direct contact with the blood or bodily fluids of someone who is sick with Ebola. To date, everyone who has had the disease has traveled to or was in an area affected by an Ebola outbreak. Ebola is not transmitted through the air.

“If or when a case of Ebola actually is found in Kansas City, we are prepared,”  Dr. Rex Archer, director of the Health Department, said. “Health Departments, hospitals, emergency responders and other community partners are constantly reviewing and improving our plans and practices to make sure that we protect the health of the public.”
