The Kansas City Museum held its first Family Fun Day since May, when it began operating under the city’s Parks and Recreation department, under the direction of the museum’s new Executive Director Anna Marie Tutera.

The Family Fun Day, held on Sept. 14, came just in time for the opening of the new exhibition “Dressing Up in Kansas City: Rites of Passage.” The event included storytelling from Molly Postelwaite, arts and craft activities for children, in addition to the exhibit in Corinthian Hall.

According to Tutera, the museum has free Family Fun Days planned at least once a month.

“The point [of Family Fun Day] is to get children involved in hands on learning through the exploration of artifacts, storytelling, arts and crafts,” said Tutera. “It also exposes parents and caregivers to new ways of teaching their children, and having conversations about history.”
