Rescue teams search the water for a man who was reportedly swimming and never resurfaced.

KANSAS CITY, Missouri —A body has been recovered in the Kessler Park pond after calls that a swimmer went into the water and didn’t resurface.

The body was pulled from the water at around 10 a.m. Law enforcement said a group of friends were swimming in the pond early Sunday morning, when one didn’t resurface, police were called. Authorities said the man was in his late teens. The name of the victim has not yet been released pending family notification.

Bystanders familiar with the pond said near the edge, the water is about six feet deep, but further in, the pond is about 12-15 feet deep. Kansas City firefighters and the KCPD were assisted with the rescue attempt by the Lee’s Summit rescue and recovery team. More information will be provided as it becomes available.
