KC Museum Hard Hat Tour

Take a hard hat tour of Corinthian Hall, the 100+ year old home of lumber baron Robert A. Long and his family. Visitors will see Corinthian Hall in mid-renovation, the bare interior of the building exposed for the first time in decades. Visitors will also tour the exhibit inside Corinthian Hall: Planning for the Future: Find History at Kansas City Museum. Admission is free and this week’s tours will be held Wednesday through Friday at 2 p.m. at the museum, 3218 Gladstone Blvd.

Canvas Art Exhibit

Join the Kansas City Museum for “Kansas City Canvas: Thomas Hart Benton and Beyond.” Explore the artisan world of Thomas Hart Benton and Kansas City artists through the collection of the Kansas City Museum. As part of the 125th anniversary of Thomas Hart Benton’s birth, the Museum will be showcasing the historical life and work of this amazing artist. The Museum will be displaying such lithograph prints as Forward Pass, Benton Home and more from our collection. The Museum, through the lens of history, will also be exploring works of art from several other KC artists including works from George Caleb Bingham, James Fitzgibbon, Daniel MacMorris and the WPA art of H.L. Pierre. Each piece will be accompanied by an essay from museum staff, area historians and artists offering insights about the history, culture and art of their chosen piece. Tours begin every hour, on the hour at 10 a.m. with the last tour at 3 p.m.

Story Time

Join North-East Public Library for its weekly story time and craft at 10:30 a.m. Parents and kids will enjoy stories geared toward toddlers and pre-schoolers. The program promotes literacy in children with the participation of caring family members in activities that explore the world of language using stories, songs, and crafts.

 

Saturday, May 24

Computer Class – Microsoft

Join North-East Public Library for class on the fundamentals of Microsoft Word which will focus on templates as well as the various menu options. Class begins at 10:30 a.m. at the library, 6000 Wilson Rd.

Blues band concert

At 4 p.m. at the Christ Presbyterian Church, 544 Wabash St., True Blood, a blues band, will perform a concert. A goodwill offering will be collected. The concert is sponsored by the Christ Presbyterian Church and the First Haitian Christian Fellowship.

Spanish lessons

Join the North-East Library for free Spanish lessons. Two ongoing sessions are available for the cost of a free will donation. Beginner classes take place every Saturday from 10 a.m. – noon and advanced classes follow from noon – 2 p.m. To enroll, contact learnwithpepe@hotmail.com.

Sunday Family Movie

Join North-East Public Library, 6000 Wilson Rd., for its Sunday Family Movie at 2 p.m. at the library. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

 

Tuesday, May 27

Kansas City Digital Media Lab

The KCDML is open to youth ages 13-18 every Tuesday from 3:30 – 7 p.m. at the Kansas City Library. It’s a safe space for youth who are interested in, or want to learn more about storytelling and/or coding. You’ll have access to equipment and adult collaborators to learn, create, and grow. All of the adult collaborators have had background checks and are simply available to help youth take their expertise and interest to the next level. The next session will be held Tuesday, May, 27.

Summer Reading Program kick off event

Beginning at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 31, join the North-East Library for the kick off to its annual the Summer Reading Program. Games, activities, crafts, snacks, and more will be available. Join the North-East Branch Library and local community organizations in the library parking lot for this fun and festive event for the whole family!

Frank White walk/run and Arts Festival

Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, June 7, for the walk/run, which takes place from 9-10:30 a.m. at the Spring Valley Park, 28th Street and Brooklyn Avenue. After the race, join the fun from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. for an outdoor art gallery and talent show. There will also be free children’s games, horse rides and a bounce house. Food will also be made available.

Northeast Book Club

Join the North-East Public Library, 6000 Wilson Rd., for its monthly Northeast Book Club at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 1. Share your passion for books and join in on riveting book discussions.
