With crumbling sidewalks, potholes galore, streets that resemble a moonscape rather than smooth asphalt, deteriorating neighborhoods and a murder rate that looks to outpace last year’s total, we’re led to believe the biggest priority in this Cow-town is a new airport and a streetcar down Independence Avenue.

Seriously?

Last week the city council, under the guise of “recognizing an emergency” authorized over $600,000 to the consulting engineering firm of Burns and McDonnell for work supposedly to be done with the Aviation Department. That right there should have tipped you off that the mayoral appointed Airport Terminal Advisory Group was going to find that the city “needed” a new airport.

This was followed by the mayor telling us fiscal watchdogs to “chill out” because it was only the beginning of the process. Mr. Mayor, with all due respect, we’re not going to, as much as you’d like us to, go away or “chill out.”

Given the spending spree you and this high minded council seem to be on with our money, the last thing we’re going to do is go away. Taxpayer funded spending sprees, like the airport and toy train streetcar need taxpayer scrutiny at every step of the way and this feisty, fiscally minded newsdog is happy to lead that charge. #notgoinanywhere
