KANSAS CITY, Missouri — The Northeast News has just learned that former Kansas City City Councilwoman Judy Swope has passed away this morning after a yearlong battle with cancer. Swope served in the city council from 1991 – 1999, representing the city’s Sixth District. Following her tenure on the council, Swope worked as an aide for Councilman George Blackwood, representing the city’s Fourth District. Swope also was a member of the Board of Zoning Adjustment, a director on the Mid-America Regional Council Board, a trustee of the Metropolitan Ambulance Service Trust and a past president and member of the Board of Directors of the Missouri Municipal League.
