KANSAS CITY, Missouri – The V.F.W. Auxiliary 9997 was a little sweeter than usual Saturday afternoon.

That’s because beginning at noon and until the food sold out, the Women’s Auxiliary group hosted its annual bake sale at the V.F.W. post 9997, 6801 Wilson Road. Everything from breads, cookies, cupcakes and pies were sold to raise funds to help the auxiliary with its programs. Group members Nancy Kirby and Berniece Baggs were joined by group president Melissa Baumgardner and her daughter Makenzie Hyde as community members purchased the sweets. Kirby and Baggs said they baked everything themelves.

In the past, the group has raised around $200 during the bake sale. Visitors were also able to purchase breast cancer pins and raffle tickets for a bottle of Jack Daniels. During the summer, the group also hosts a garage sale and Baumgardner mentioned a cake walk possibly taking place this spring. Baggs and Kirby said they always have a good time at no matter which fundraiser they’re volunteering at, something they’ve both been doing for over 40 years.
