The Division of Employment Security (DES) is extending the hours of operation for its Regional Claims Centers to accommodate the increased workload in unemployment claims due to the federal government shutdown.

Beginning Monday, Oct. 7, the Regional Claims Centers will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.  Additionally, the Regional Claims Centers will be open Monday, Oct. 14 (Columbus Day State Holiday) to take calls and process claims.

Due to the increased workload, initial claimants may experience a longer wait time or phone lines may be busy.  DES is asking individuals to take advantage of the extended hours and continue to call.  DES says claims specialists are working hard to ensure that initial unemployment claims are filed correctly and in a timely manner.

In most instances, individuals can file for unemployment insurance online at http://labor.mo.gov/DES/Claims/. However, federal employees must call a Regional Claims Center to file their initial claim:
