Kansas City Missouri Police Department members took a shot at their bosses – including Chief Darryl Forté – in the inaugural Dunk-a-Cop fundraiser for Special Olympics Missouri on Sept. 6 at the Kansas City Police Credit Union, 2800 E. 14th Street.
The chief, other police commanders, leaders of Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 99 and Credit Union President Aaron Goff each took turns in the dunk tank. Hecklers were also on site, cheering and jeering the dunkees and those who were trying to get them in the water. In addition to raising funds through attendees paying to have their shot at dunking members of KCPD, the dunkees also pledged to donate $5 every time they hit the water. All proceeds went to Special Olympics Missouri. Special Olympics is the charity of choice for law enforcement nationwide.
“We wanted a way for people to have fun but raise money for a great cause,” said Administrative Assistant Michelle Stirnaman, who helped organize the event.
