La Chalupa Farmer’s Market

Mattie Rhodes’ La Chalupa’s Farmer’s Market, 148 N. Topping, is open for the season and will be held every Thursday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Enjoy fresh eggs, vegetables, fruit, baked goods and more. SNAP/EBT is accepted.

 

Un-Chef Cook-Off

Newhouse, a domestic violence shelter for women and their children, will be hosting the fundraiser, Un-Chef Cook-Off, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sept. 12 at Studio 2131 at 2131 Washington St., Kansas City, Mo. The “Un-Chefs” will include KSHB-TV Investigative Reporter Keith King (the 2010 Un-Chef Champion), KSHB-TV Morning Anchor JiaoJiao Shen, and KSHB-TV Meteorologist Kalee Dionne. Game Day for Adults

North-East Public Library will host a game day for adults beginning at 10 a.m. at the library.

 

Story Time and Craft

Join North-East Public Library for its weekly story time and craft at 10:30 a.m. Parents and kids will enjoy stories geared toward toddlers and pre-schoolers. Get ready for songs, tongue twisters and dramatic play.

 

KCPS Battle of the Bands

Kansas City Public Schools will host a Battle of the Bands from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Interscholastic League Stadium, 3500 E. Meyer Blvd., Kansas City, Mo. A number of area school bands will participate, including drill teams.

 

KCI Cruise Night

KCI Cruise Night will be held from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Ambassador Building at KCI, 12200 NW Ambassador Drive, Kansas City, Mo. The event is free and open to the public, and will feature hundreds of classic cars, muscle cars, hot rods and more. There will also be raffle tickets and refreshments. A Cultural Celebration of Bhutan

The North-East Public Library, 6000 Wilson Rd., will host A Cultural Celebration of Bhutan beginning at 2 p.m. Experience the smells, tastes and sounds of Bhutan, the happiest country in Asia and the eighth happiest in the world, with an afternoon of poetry, music, dance, visual art and food. All are invited to attend this free event.

 

Walk and Talk Tour of Elmwood Cemetery

The Kansas City Museum will host a Walk and Talk Tour of Elmwood Cemetery on Sunday, Sept. 15 beginning at 2 p.m. Cost is $8 and tour will be led by Bruce Mathews, author of “Elmwood Cemetery: Stories of Kansas City.” Pre-registration is required. You’ll see grave sites of famous and infamous of Kansas City. Meet at the Elmwood Cemetery entrance, 4900 Truman Rd., Kansas City, Mo. Power of Reading: A Celebration of the Written Word Adult student of Literacy KC will share their heartfelt stories of how reading has transformed their lives during the fifth annual “Power of Reading: A Celebration of Written Word.” The event will be held on Sept. 19 at the Kansas City Public Library, Truman Forum Auditorium, 4801 Main St., Kansas City, Mo. A free reception will begin at 6 p.m. in the lobby. The event will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Local authors will also read original writings and reveal the impact of reading in their lives. The event is co-sponsored by the Writers Place and Literacy Kansas City.

 

Mural Painting Celebration

The North-East Public Library, 6000 Wilson Rd., in partnership with the Halo Foundation and Community Police Team, will host a Mural Painting Celebration at the library from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 21. During the event, the mural in the library’s parking lot will be repainted and volunteers are welcome.

 

KCPS Battle of the Bands

Kansas City Mayors Sly James and Mark Holland will host a community conversation event regarding mental health. This is a unique chance to learn about mental health in a safe and welcoming environment and to recommend actions to improve the lives of people living with mental health issues. The event will be held Sept. 21 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Ballroom in the Muehlebach Tower of the KC Marriott Downtown, 1213 Wyandotte, Kansas City, Mo. Seats are limited.
