Newhouse, a domestic violence shelter for women and their children, hosted a BBQ appreciation dinner earlier this month for its many volunteers.

Kansas City-based Newhouse has been operating since 1979 and its mission is to break the cycle of domestic violence by providing tools to allow women to make positive choices and lead self-sufficient lives.

During the event, Newhouse also dedicated its new community garden.
