Here’s a couple of random thoughts from this ol’ newspooch in regard to some current news stories.

First off, kudos to the three dissenting votes on the city council last week who voted against the new $2 billion airport. Councilmen Wagner, Sharp and Taylor all had the stones to say “no” to this Pendergast cronyism laden “plan.”

Councilman Wagner correctly pointed out the flawed research done by the Aviation Department that’s being pushed as fact about present vs. future traffic reports. We doubt anyone else on this “go along to get along” city council will stand up for their constituency, but we sure appreciate the effort these three made last week. Not everyone is drinkin’ the Kool-Aid on this project. Next step – defund the ordinance that funds the PR company the city hired to jam this down our throats.

Also in this week’s news, there sure was a lot of boo-hooing about the homeless camp that KCPD turned over last week down by the Northeast baseball fields, displacing a number of homeless folks. Not sure how you displace a homeless person, but that’s another story. For those of you hand-wringers out there cryin’ the blues over these folks getting the boot, keep in mind, in both the Paseo camp and this camp, there was evidence of drug manufacturing as well as hard evidence that metal thefts were a daily activity for some of these people. There was even evidence of a dead-beat dad who owed thousands in back child support living in one of the camps. That in itself should be a lesson on how far some of these criminals will go to stay off the radar and off the grid.
