Wounds That Heal Fundraiser
Editor’s Note: Newhouse has now postponed this event due to unforeseen circumstances.
Come support Newhouse, a domestic violence shelter for women and their children, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Leopold Gallery, 324 W. 63rd St., Kansas City, Mo. Suggested donation is $10. View artwork from Kansas City high school students and learn how you can help the 25 percent of teens who say they’ve been a victim of dating violence. Light refreshments will be served.

NEKC Historical Society Membership Meeting

Women’s Self Defense Class

Kansas City Design Center Charette
Learn more about the Kansas City Design Center’s project regarding the Independence Avenue corridor. KCDC students will discuss their urban vision study of the Avenue beginning at 1 p.m. Sunday, March 3 at the North-East Public Library. Another charette will be held at the library at 5:30 p.m. on April 15.

 

Cultures Without Borders opening reception
Cultures Without Borders Traveling Art Exhibit will open on March 10 with a public reception and meet and greet with artists from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the American Heartland Theater Lobby in Crown Center, 2450 Grand Blvd., Suite 314, Kansas City, Mo. The exhibit will remain in the lobby until May 2. On May 3, the exhibit will open in its second venue at the Vine Street Studio, 2033 Vine St., Kansas City, Mo. Another reception will be held on May 3 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. The evening will also include live jazz and cost is $5. Regular gallery hours will be Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Other times are by appointment, (816) 645-1052. Show closes May 31.

 

Newhouse Shelter Showdown
Come support Kansas City’s Newhouse, a domestic violence shelter for women and their children, during its fundraiser, “Shelter Showdown.” The fundraiser will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. March 13 at Boulevard Brewery, 2501 Southwest Blvd., Kansas City, Mo. Cost is $30 at the door or $25 in advance and includes all-you-can drink Boulevard beer, wine and pizza. Other activities will include a silent auction, college apparel for sale, basketball games on the big screens, a free throw tourney, and other activities.
