Valentine’s Day Papermaking
Explore the ancient methods of papermaking using everyday, off-the-shelf products and recycled materials to make artful sheets of unique paper just in time for Valentine’s Day. Bring dryer lint, glitter, ribbons, yarns, and other materials to be incorporated in your one of-a-kind papers. The class will be held at Back Door Pottery, 3922 St John Ave., KCMO. City of Kansas City, Mo., Public Budget Hearing
The City of Kansas City will host a public budget hearing to discuss the proposed $1.4 billion budget. Meeting will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Northland Neighborhoods Inc., 4420 NE Chouteau Trafficway.

 

Scarritt Coffee Club’s “The Art of Love”
Let the warm glow of affection wash over you as you enter Corinthian Hall at the Kansas City Museum, 3218 Gladstone Blvd., to join the Scarritt Coffee Club for some neighborly love from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Create your own Valentine’s Day crafts and cards with supplies provided by the museum, swill coffee and savor breakfast treats and chocolates. As you stroll through the museum, check out the myriad performances which will range from a flamenco guitarist to poetry recitations to contemporary keyboards, guitar and vocals, and more. Feel free to bring a sweet or savory breakfast hors d’oeuvre, or box of chocolates. All are invited to attend this free event. Vietnamese New Year
Celebrate the Vietnamese New Year at Pho Hoa, 1447 E. Independence Ave., Kansas City, Mo., at noon Feb. 10. Activities will include a dragon dance, food, drinks and entertainment. All proceeds will go to the churches and temples to support orphan children of Vietnam.

Independence Plaza Council monthly meeting
Independence Plaza Council will host its monthly meeting at 7 p.m. in the basement of City Union Mission’s New Life Center Building, 1301 Olive. Agenda items include discussing a new meeting location and time, neighborhood concerns and planning for 2013.

 

ESL 13-week Course

Beads, Beans and Beers
Northeast Kansas City Chamber of Commerce will host its annual fundraiser, Beads, Beans and Beers, at the Askew Inn, 3600 Independence Ave., Kansas City, Mo., from 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. Cost is $10 in advance or $15 at the door and includes red beans and rice, beads and one beer. Other activities will include a costume contest for best King and Queen Costume and Mask and raffle drawings.

 

Gardening class
Mattie Rhodes Center, 148 N. Topping Ave., Kansas City, Mo., is hosting a five-week gardening class at the Center which began Jan. 22. The weekly classes will be held every Tuesday at 6 p.m. and are free of charge. Receive training and support on how to develop a small vegetables market booth at a local farmer’s market.
