Students ages 9 to 14 competed against teams from across the Kansas City metro, testing their robotic skills during the FIRST LEGO League robotics regional tournament held at Union Station Jan. 12. Forty teams qualified for the tournament and learned how to design, build and program their robots. This year’s challenge, Senior Solutions, also required teams to find ways to improve the quality of life for seniors through technology. Each team presented their project to judges and explained how their invention would improve the lives of seniors. Students solved issues ranging from hearing loss to arthritis to remembering to take prescription pills, among others.  Photos by Leslie Collins
