The Salvation Army is inviting area residents to join them for a free Christmas meal on Tuesday, Dec. 25, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 101 W. Linwood in Kansas City, Mo.
The meal will include turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans and pie. Approximately 200 volunteers will assist with the Christmas Day Dinner from set-up to clean-up.
Preparations for the dinner begin earlier this week with the roasting of 125 turkeys, which will then be deboned by a team of volunteers. Twenty-four cases of green beans, 24 gallons of gravy and 40 pounds of butter also make up the annual dinner.
Also on Christmas Day, nearly 100 Salvation Army volunteers will deliver a traditional holiday meal to 800 home-bound and elderly individuals in the metropolitan area. All volunteer assignments for the Christmas Day Dinner and meal delivery are full.
