VFW Pumpkin Decorating Contest
VFW Post 9997 will host the 4th Annual John Dowell Pumpkin Decorating Contest from noon to 4 p.m. at the post, 6801 Wilson Rd., Kansas City, Mo. For the contest, there will be three age groups and the top three in each group will receive a prize. KCFD, Kansas City Mounted Patrol and the National Guard will also be in attendance. KC Stangle will provide children’s karaoke. Drawings and prizes will given away throughout the day.

Pendleton Heights Costume Party
Pendleton Heights will host a costume party fundraiser at AJ’s Bar, 2618 Independence Ave., Kansas City, Mo., from 7:30 p.m. to close. Proceeds will go toward funding off-duty KCPD officers to patrol the neighborhood. The night will include a bake sale, silent auction, music and costume contest. Cost is $10 at the door.

 

NEKCHS Homes Tour

Visit the North-East Public Library for Dino O’Dell’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Show at 10:30 a.m. O’Dell will sing and tell stories of space aliens, monsters under the bed and swimming in peanut butter. Wear your Halloween costume, too!

 

Scarritt Renaissance Coffee Club

Spanish Lecture at St. Anthony’s
Julian Zugazagoitia, director and CEO of the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, will deliver a lecture in Spanish at St. Anthony Church, 309 Benton Blvd., Kansas City, Mo., on Monday, Oct. 29, at 6 p.m. Zugazagoitia will talk about the spiritual experience of art and his experiences growing up in Mexico, observing the Day of the Dead. The event is open to the public.
