Teens are invited to join North-East Public Libary, 6000 Wilson Rd., for its Teen Craft Night at 5 p.m. Ages 13-19 are welcome.

Hard Hat Happy Hour
Explore Kansas City Museum’s more than 100-year-old mansion home, Corinthian Hall, with a glass of wine during Kansas City Museum’s Hard Hat Happy Hour. You’ll see Corinthian Hall in mid-renovation, examine 100-year-old craftsmanship and listen to museum staff relay future plans for the mansion. Cost is $5. Attendees must be at least 21 to attend. Tour will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

 

Bead Making
Kids ages 8 and up are invited to attend North-East Public Library’s bead making class at 5 p.m. Design your own clay beads and Back Door Pottery will fire them and send them back the following week.

 

La Chalupa Farmer’s Market
Mattie Rhodes Community Center, 148 N. Topping, will host La Chalupa Farmer’s Market every Thursday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the Mattie Rhodes parking lot. EBT/SNAP cards will get extra dollars for local produce.

Story Time and Craft
Join North-East Public Library for its weekly story time and craft at 10:30 a.m. Parents and kids will enjoy stories geared toward toddlers and pre-schoolers. Get ready for songs, tongue twisters and dramatic play.

 


Knights of Columbus Bingo
Join Knights of Columbus Council 4613 for a night of bingo from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at St. Anthony’s Parish Hall, 3208 Lexington, Kansas City, Mo. Food will be available for purchase.

NEKC Taste and Tour
The Northeast Kansas City Chamber of Commerce will host the NEKC Taste and Tour from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. Cost is $20 in advance or $25 at the door. The Taste and Tour will be held at the American Sons of Columbus Hall, 2415 Independence Ave., and will feature delectable samples from more than 20 Historic Northeast restaurants. In addition, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. a tour bus will take attendees around Northeast to show off gems like the Kansas City Museum, historic homes and more. Restaurant samples will be available beginning at 7 p.m. The night will also include a performance by the Swingsters, the Grand Marquis Band, a cash bar, silent auction, raffle and 50/50 drawing. NTDF Informational Workshop
Organizations interested in applying for Fiscal Year 2013-2014 reimbursable grants from the city’s Neighborhood Tourist Development Fund (NTDF) are encouraged to attend the annual informational workshops, as some requirements have changed from last year. The City will host six workshops. The first one will be held Sept. 8 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Robert J. Mohart Multipurpose Center Auditorium, 3200 Wayne Ave.

 

Garage Sale and Car Wash
Della Lamb Community Center along with the Bank of Kansas City will host a garage sale and car wash from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Della Lamb Community Center, 500 Woodland Ave. Proceeds will benefit the Niles Homes for Girls.

Literacy KC Volunteer Orientation
Literacy Kansas City will host a volunteer orientation from 6:30 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. at the American Red Cross Building, 211 W. Armour Blvd. Experienced literacy tutors will talk about adult illiteracy and Literacy Kansas City’s volunteer program of free one-on-one tutoring for adults and older teens. This orientation is a prerequisite for the literacy tutor training series offered monthly and also includes information about other volunteer opportunities. Independence Plaza Monthly Meeting
Independence Plaza Neighborhood Council will host its monthly meeting at 7 p.m. in the basement of City Union Mission’s New Life Center Building, 1301 Olive. Topics will include the community garden, halfway house and recovery house.

 

Dunamos Free Outdoor Event
Dunamos, a ministry of music and power, will host a free outdoor event on Sept. 15 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Gospel Lighthouse, 1300 Askew. Activities will include prizes, food and special speaker who’s won six world and six national titles in weight lifting.

 

Holy Cross Parish Festival
The Holy Cross Parish Festival will be held on Sunday, Sept. 16, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the soccer field at 5106 St. John Ave. Activities will include food, games, music, clowns and prizes.

 

Walk and Talk Tours
