Chouteau Trafficway and Parvin Road reopened for traffic quietly Wednesday morning, ahead of schedule and under budget according to city sources.

The reopening coincides with the first day of school in the North Kansas City School District and allows buses easier access to elementary and middle schools in the nearby neighborhood. Traffic island construction has also commenced further north at the Chouteau Crossing shopping center.

For the next four to five weeks, crews will be reconstructing traffic islands and intersection configurations to blend seamlessly with the new Chouteau Trafficway footprint. That work could cause delays getting in or out of the shopping center. Construction will continue on the project through 2012 and into the spring of 2013.
