Neighborhood organizations will now have another tool for enhancing the neighborhood.

The City of Kansas City recently launched the reBUILD/KC Neighborhood Mini-Grant Program to help neighborhood organizations implement projects like neighborhood clean-ups, community gardens, youth development programs and more.

“This is the first time ever to my knowledge that we’ve created a fund like that,” City Council member Scott Wagner said.

Through the $60,000 matching grant fund, neighborhood organizations will be able to receive up to $2,000 for their projects. Each grant requires a “dollar-for-dollar” matching contribution, which can range from volunteer labor to donated materials to in-kind services.

To be eligible, organizations must submit an application by June 29, 2012, and projects must be implemented by April 30, 2013.

“It’s a way to show that the city is trying to help neighborhoods,” Wagner said of the grant program.
