KC Museum Hard Hat Tour

Take a hard hat tour of Corinthian Hall, the 100+ year old home of lumber baron Robert A. Long and his family. Visitors will see Corinthian Hall in mid-renovation, the bare interior of the building exposed for the first time in decades. Visitors will also tour the exhibit inside Corinthian Hall: Planning for the Future: Find History at Kansas City Museum. Admission is free and this week’s tours will be held Wednesday through Friday at 2 p.m. at the museum, 3218 Gladstone Blvd.

    The Kansas City Public Schools parents will meet from 6 – 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19, at Garfield Elementary, 436 Prospect Ave., to discuss attendance boundaries and student uniform options for the two new middle schools opening this fall, Central Middle School and Northeast Middle School. Another meeting will be held from 6 – 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, at Melcher Elementary, 3958 Chelsea Ave.

    Valentine’s Day Papermaking

    Northeast’s Rebecca Koop, owner of Backdoor Pottery, will host a papermaking workshop centered around a Valentine’s Day theme at her shop, 3922 St. John Ave. Learn the ancient methods of papermaking using everyday materials. Please bring dryer lint, glitter, ribbon, and other materials you’d like to incorporate into your one-of-a-kind papers. Papermaking tools will be provided.     AmeriCorps VISTA will be hosting a Back to School Extravaganza at Whittier Elementary from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. for Whittier students and their families. AmeriCorps is promoting the event as a “family fun night” which will feature a free dinner and promote the importance of attendance. There will also be games and other activities for students and parents. Community organizers will provide further information on family engagement and provide coats and books for students.
