KCPD Officers responded to the 100 block of Bellaire this morning on a sound of shots call. Upon arrival at the residence officers determined that one of the individuals who stayed at the boarded up duplex was involved in a shoot-out with another individual who fled the scene. One individual, Darrel Greenfield, one of the individuals allegedly involved in the shooting was arrested and transported to jail. One handgun was recovered at the scene as well as a number of shell casings of a variety of calibers. The window of a truck parked on private property was shot out during the fracas and rounds could be seen embedded in neighboring properties,

Six other individuals, all residents of the vacant building were ordered by police to remove their belongings from the building as the city’s Codes Department would be out later in the day to secure the premises. The city’s Animal Control Department transported one animal to the pound.
The building has no electricity, water or gas service and the property was littered with trash and junk, most of which was collected by the residents who scrapped for small change. Orange electrical cords could be seen running from a first floor window to a small gas generator sitting on a neighbor’s property. According to Officers at the scene, the interior of the building was strewn with animal feces as well as trash and human waste.
Charges are expected to be filed against Greenfield upon further investigation. Court records indicate Greenfield is a convicted felon and is not allowed to be in possession of a weapon. We’ll have further details as they become available.
