Grab your friends and family and come experience what the Renaissance period was all about at the 43rd Kansas City Renaissance Festival.

At the gate, tickets are $22.95 for an adult and $13.95 for a child over the age of four. Parking is free to everyone.

You can purchase your tickets in advance at your local HyVee, Menards, Dillons and Pawn and Pint.

The KC Renaissance Festival has a lot of fun-filled activities available to us this year. Some of these include: axe, knife and star throwing, Irish step dancing, treasure hunts, pet costume contests, kilt contests, Lederhosen relay race, and so many different shows and acts.

Some of the new things available this year are aerial acts, Viking invasion, Game of Thrones feast and magical photo ops.

The Renaissance Festival creates new themes for each weekend which helps people determine when they want to go based on what they want to see.

This past weekend was “Barbarians at the Gate.” Your furry friends got in for only $5 with the appropriate vet records and they held a pet costume contest.

The Festival also hosted a Corgi race in the jousting arena. The crowd went crazy for the Corgi race; the stands were full.

People were conversing about how cute it was to see the Corgis small legs run across the arena to their owners. Some Corgis got off track and ran in circles leaving the crowd in awe.

The heat was no issue for attendees and everyone that went had a great time. A former Northeast neighbor, Nicole Davidge, is a returnee to the Kansas City Renaissance Festival and came with her son who was a dragon and she was a winch.

“It’s a good way to spend the day walking around with people watching,” Davidge said. “We had a coupon we would come no matter what.”

Davidge wasn’t the only one having a good time. The audience watching the shows were all laughing and in shock as the acts went on.

Just to make the experience even better, festival-goers are greeted by all the wonderful workers in full costumes including the king and queen.

Booths were full of a variety of wonderful treasures from swords to homemade honey. They serve a variety of food at the renaissance festival including: turkey legs, chocolate-covered cheesecake, potatoes, and so much more.

Kevin McKinney works at the festival as a Sator. He enjoys the interactions with the guests He believes working for the festival is a “solid gig.”

“I get to amuse myself with the passers as they walk by and come up with reasons to why things aren’t the way they are even though it’s usually fairly observant,” McKinney said.

There are still many great weekend themes that might interest you coming up including: Celtic Games, Wine and Romance Rendezvous, Whimsical Wanderlust, Oktoberfest and Discovery Day.

Discovery Day being the last weekend they are offering tickets for only $14.95 for adults!

If you like dragons, vikings, people blowing fire, ponies, and lots of jousting, this is the place for you!

They have so many options, including a children’s area. You will get to meet fairies, vikings, dragons, as well as the king and queen, and watch many magical acts.

If you have never been, it’s an event you don’t want to miss.

The festival will be open whether rain or shine. If you have any questions about this year’s festival please call 913-721-2110 or visit the website at www.kcrenfest.com.
