Health Department offers flu clinic

The Kansas City, Mo., Health Department began providing adult seasonal flu vaccines on Tuesday. The vaccine will be available during regular clinic hours at a cost of $20.
On July 29, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices announced the recommendation that everyone six months of age and older should receive a yearly flu shot.
For those who qualify, the Health Department can bill Medicare or Medicaid on their behalf.
Flu shots will be available on a first come, first served basis. Clinic hours are Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to noon. The clinic is closed for lunch from noon to 1 p.m.

Schools to host back-to-school nights

The Kansas City, Mo., School District will be hosting back-to-school nights throughout September. Students and their families are encouraged to attend to become acclimated to their school communities.
In Historic Northeast, the events will be:
• 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 14, at Garfield Elementary School.
• 5:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 14, at Gladstone Academy.
• 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 14, at James Elementary School.
• 6-8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 17, at Whittier Elementary School.
• 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 23, at Northeast High School.
• 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 16, at East High School.
